The sun was just started to set over the western horizon as a small, lanky black figure padded through the dark and dry Bighorn Canyon, though right now it seemed more like Danger Canyon. It was so dark and dreary with it's steep, rocky walls, and all the cracks and crevices held plenty of hiding places for cougars or coyotes. None of that bothered the brave hero Shenandoah though! He wasn't afraid of the dark, or big scary cougars or coyotes or..... Well okay, he was a little scared. He wasn't sure where he was, and it was getting darker by the minute and the tempature was dropping with the coming night. Oh, why had he followed the Black Warrior River up down this far? He would be in huge trouble when the adults found he wasn't at the Tribe's camp tonight, if they weren't mad already.
Shenandoah walked through the long canyon, his paws padding over the hard rock ground as he kept his head and tail low. How he'd hate if any of the other pups saw him looking like this, he would never admit that he was actually scared. But maybe they'd see him as the bravest wolf of all? He had braved the dangerous Bighorn Canyon after all, where rock slides or cougars or coyotes or eagles or anything else could strike from the shadows at any moment. Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all!

Fluke bounded up the rocky canyon. His small paws pattered against the dusty ground. His ears and eyes alert in the dark. He was scared, but determined to press on. Fluke was at the dens earlier and had noticed that one of the pups wasn't there. instead of informing one of the adults, Fluke made the decision to look for himself. He didn't want to get the straying pup in trouble.
The youth's tracking skills weren't great, but he knew he was somewhat close. The higher he went up the Canyon, the more he could see below. It was scary up here, but he needed to be brave. He knew Shenandoah was scared of nothing. Fluke looked up to him. He wanted to be brave too. The pup paused as he noticed a small figure walking in the distance.
Fluke charged towards the individual excitedly. His small tail wagging hard. "Shenandoah! I found you!" he giggled. To Fluke's astonishment, he was actually talking to a rather confused hare. It dashed into the shadows before he had a chance to react. "Aww.." Fluke's ears flattened against his skull as he was gravely disappointed.

Shenandoah tried stepping as quietly as he could, not wanting to disturb any sleeping beast that could be lurking in the canyon. This was so embarrassing, he was honestly scared and lonely and lost, and he hated it. Even if wolves did view him as a hero, he wouldn't be back here at night for a long while. The sun was just disappearing under the horizon on one end of the canyon, Shen had to think a moment, what had the adults said? The black pup sat down a moment, furrowing his brow. The sun rises from the lands of the Sacred Soul Graveyard, taking the spirits of his ancestors with it across the sky into the White Moon Mountains. So that would be... West to East? No, east to west, right? Yeah, that had to be it. So if the sun was setting behind him, that was west, he must be going east. But how did he get back to the camp? Shen thought that was to the North, which is down from East and West, no.. up. But to his left and right were nothing but steep walls of rock, he couldn't possibly climb them. Or could he...? The lanky black furred pup stood, glancing around before walking up to one of the walls. It was pretty steep, but there were multiple ledges and protruding rocks he could possibly jump on... He placed his front paws on one rock, gazing up with his brown eyes. Well, worth a shot—
Shenandoah was about to hop onto the boulder when a noise pierced the quiet evening air. He was so startled by the sound, he didn't even stop to realize it was merely an owl before he was setting off down the canyon at a full gallop. A high pitched yelp escaped his jaws as he bounded over the rock, eyes wide with pinned ears and tucked tail. He wasn't even paying attention to the direction he was heading, he just wanted to get out of this creepy place!
The pup hadn't been running long before he eventually came around a corner in the long dark canyon, only to see a small figure about his size up ahead. It's brownish fur nearly blended with the rocks, and was silhouetted against the setting sun. Shenandoah skidded to a halt, his little heart skipping a beat in fear. Was that a coyote in front of him? They could eat wolf pups! He was dead, he was so dead but too young to die!

Fluke curled into a ball. He was scared, cold and ready to cry. He needed a hero right about now. Coming here was foolish. Shenandoah had probably already made it back to camp by now. The young pup groaned. He would go back and inform an adult instead.
Fluke raised to his feet slowly and glanced in all directions. Which way had he came? His surroundings all looked identical. There was nothing he could extinguish to make his way back. "I'm lost..." Fluke spoke in horror. His eyes grew wide as he got very scared. His breathing got heavier as he began to panic. He was moments away from having a meltdown.
Fluke's eyes darted to Shenandoah as he heard movement. Fluke wailed a loud cry. "Don't eat meeeee!" he screamed, too frozen to move.

Shenandoah shut his eyes tightly, awaiting the sharp teeth of the coyote like predator to attack. This was the end, the death of young Shenandoah in a dark canyon, by the fangs of a pathetic coyote! "Don't eat meeeee!" The high pitched shout caught Shen off guard, did a coyote just... Plead? Growing curious, and not feeling any pain from being bitten, the black pup slowly opened his brown eyes, first gazing at the figure in front of him, then eyes popping wide when he realized what it was. Or who, more so.
"Fluke?!" He yipped in surprise. He was so startled to see his fellow pupmate, he didn't even realize his jaw had dropped to show his rows of small pointy teeth. Why was Fluke out here?! How?! When?! And most of all, had he seen Shen run in fear from an owl?
The lanky black pup stared at Fluke, trying to figure out what was happening. His posture automatically straightened, tail raising from between his legs and ears perking. He couldn't possibly show that he was scared. "What're you doing here?" He asked, the confusion showing through his young voice.

Fluke was shaking violently like a leaf. He was terrified until the dark figure talked. He inspected the mysterious character a bit closer. They were way too small to be a predator. And sounded an awful lot like somebody he knew. The young pup was gobsmacked as he realized that Shenandoah had in fact found him! Fluke breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't going to get eaten after all. Not yet at least. "Shenandoah!" he tackled the black pup to the ground as he was overjoyed to see him. "Can't believe you're here! I was looking everywhere, I thought something had caught you!" He was yelling quite loudly. He had forgotten they were in such a dangerous place, where any creature could strike at any moment.

The young black pup raised himself to stand tall, trying to look confident as he could, even though he was secretly terrified of the things that lurked in the dark shadows of the dimming light. But he couldn't let Fluke see that, now could he?
His eyes widened as the opposing pup came at him, bounding onto Shen and tumbling him to the ground. Shenandoah let out a surprised snarl, trying to squirm away.
"Fluke! Get off of me!" He yapped, growling in attempt to sound ferocious. It was bad enough he'd got himself lost, now he was being tackled! Finally he wiggled himself free, letting out an annoyed huff as he flattened his ears. "Can't believe you're here! I was looking everywhere, I thought something had caught you!" Shen puffed his chest out, short fluffy tail raising high in attempt to mimick how the pack leaders stood when being dominant. "Tch, you think something could catch me?" Oh please say he didn't see the incident with the owl, please please please. That would be so embarrassing. "And hey turn down your yapper! You're gonna call in all the ugly things that'll find you a good snack." He said, acting as if he was annoyed by Fluke's presence, but deep down he was glad his fellow packmate was here now, at least he wasn't alone anymore.
"We should go home before those things do find us." But question was; where was home? He sure didn't know, but again he wasn't about to tell Fluke that.
